I was so happy, I got a Fitbit tracker for Christmas. It's got awesome APIs, so for the tech geek in me there's a lot of stuff you can do with it.

I was really bummed when I was getting the 'Fitbit Tracker is not responding to requests' error. I'd been following these instructions on Fitbit's site.  After many times resetting, restarting, and reinstalled the fitbit software 3-4 times with no luck I was able to finally get it working on my Windows Machine. It turns out that the "New Hardware Wizard" on XP needs to install something. I also noticed Vista did the same thing, but is a newer computer so it was more transparent to the process.

Fitbit doesn't make any mention of this. It turns out the Fitbit Base needs to install some driver software.

Some other things I've tried to get it to work.

  • I've tried installing from the "New Hardware Wizard." And install the device called the "Fitbit Base Station." It just hangs for a very long time.
  • Additionally I've turned off my Anti-Virus software.
  • When I get the "This is Not Trusted Hardware" I ignored and kept installing.

I was installing this on a Windows XP machine (service pack 3).
